Discretion in Counsel. Continuity in Things. Since 1857.

A House of Considerable Tradition

Steadfast. Discreet. Occasionally Useful.

Portman-Shields remains a fixture of the global economic cycle: occasionally questioned, seldom understood, yet enduring with unmistakable dignity.

Founded in London in 1857 by Sir Godwin Portman and Sir Edward Shields, the firm has long concerned itself with the careful management, advisory interpretation and ceremonial accompaniment of matters that may or may not require managing.

History

The Founding Board

A later historical portrait presents Sir Godwin Portman and Sir Edward Shields in attendance upon Lady Agatha Lane Dungeon, whose arrival in 1863 marked a notable expansion in both governance and ceremony.

Together, they came to embody the peculiar balance for which Portman-Shields would become known: conviction, discretion, and a formidable willingness to organise matters that had not expressly requested it.
